Protect Yourself against Pharming
Pharming is a devious technique used to misdirect your Internet
browser, tricking it into accessing a malicious web site that looks like and
pretends to be legitimate. This is usually done to trick you into entering
personal information.
Pharming can be accomplished through Malware (Malicious Software) which
redirects your browser to a fraudulent website or by Internet Hackers who access
and alter key elements (DNS) of the internet.
How can you protect yourself?
Since Pharming may be accomplished through the Internet itself, you may not have
the ability to be aware of such an attack in advance. However, you may offer
some protection by ensuring your PC's Virus Software is installed and updated to
protect your computer from Malware. If you suspect a problem with an internet
website, you can always enter your User ID and Password incorrectly on the first
try, if the website gives you access with a faulty User ID or Password, you can
be assured the site is fraudulent.
Huron Community Bank has implemented Multi-Factor Authentication for our
Internet Banking Website to help protect you against Pharming.
